In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (UN) approved the 2030 agenda for sustainable development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 corresponding targets, and established a 15-year term to achieve them. The 2020-2030 decade will be the most ambitious in order to achieve the 2030 Goals, through action at the global level, action at the local level and action by people that allows generating the necessary transformations in this regard.
In addition to this milestone, in 2016 Costa Rica became the first country in the world to sign the National Pact for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), of which state universities are signatories. From this moment, individual universities began actions to meet the commitments of the Pact.
Since 2019, the National Council of Rectors agreed to incorporate in the context analysis and as part of the systemic vision of the National Plan for State Higher Education (PLANES) 2021-2025 the approach to the Sustainable Development Goals. Based on this agreement, joint actions have been carried out by the state universities and Conare to identify the contributions made by these institutions in the attention of the National Pact for the SDGs, the results of which are found in the reports published for the year 2018 and 2019.
Additionally, in the Quality and Relevance and Sustainability axes of the PLANES 2021-2025 action plan, strategic goals were included aimed at meeting the commitments acquired and the compilation of the greatest amount of information on the actions developed and the link for the compliance with the SDGs and Agenda 2030.

Additionally, we suggest changing the name of the “ODS from State Universities” tab to “Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030”, if it is possible to leave the full name instead of the acronym ODS..
